Diane Lane is probably one of the best actresses in Hollywood and I’ve been a fan for almost a quarter century now, yet I’ve wondered for years why it took Hollywood so long to acknowledge her for the star she is.

Until Unfaithful was released in 2002 it seemed she was always hovering on the brink of greatness. With that movie, were she plays a housewife who embarks on an extramarital affair, she finally arrived.

Beautiful, smart, sexy, sophisticated, here is my list of the best Diane Lane films. Some are well-known, others not so well-known, but all of them are worth watching. In no particular order:

1. Unfaithful(2002)-A married suburban wife gets tangled up with a younger French book dealer, the end result costing one person their life and destroying a family in the process.

2. Under the Tuscan Sun (2003)-A divorcee takes a trip to the Italian countryside on a quest to find herself. She falls in love with the atmosphere and decides to live there.

3. Lady Beware (1987)-A young window dresser attracts the attention of a deranged stalker. This one turned me into a fan.

4. A Little Romance (1979)-Her first film. Set in France and Italy it’s about a pair of teenagers who fall in love and run away to Venice to kiss under the Bridge of Sighs, so they will be in love forever.

5. A Walk on the Moon (1999)-Set in 1969, a married woman vacationing with her family has an affair.

6. The Outsiders (1983)-Based on the novel of the same name, Cherry is the rich girl who befriends Ponyboy, a poor greaser, causing hostile responses from her group of friends. Tragedy ensues.

7. The Cotton Club (1984)-Her first pairing with Richard Gere. The film chronicles the famous Harlem nightspot and the people who performed there and frequented it.

8. The Perfect Storm (2000)-Based on the novel and set in 1991, she’s the girlfriend of one of the fisherman that will perish on the ill-fated Andrea Gail.

9. Streets of Fire (1984)-A rock star is kidnapped during a concert and her ex-boyfriend sets out to rescue her.

10.Untraceable (2008)-A woman working the night shift discovers a website where a madman posts videos of his dying victims.

These are just a small collection of excellent films this amazing actress has starred in. May she continue to grace the silver screen for many years to come.
